Abstract
Most of congenital anomalies are usually associated with other congenital anomalies. The details of occurence have not been clearly understood, even though in cleft lip and palate. The open cleft, because of failure to warm and moisten the inspired air, produces a continuing sore throat and upper respiratory infection.

Authors experienced 380 cleft lip and palate patients (cleft lip: 154, cleft palate: 57, cleft lip & palate: 169) during 1983 to 1986 and clinically evaluated it¡¯s associated congenital anomalies and acquired diseases. The results are as follows.

1. Congenital anomalies encountered 24 cases (6.4%). There were tongue tie(5), hand anomaly(5), congenital heart disease(3), facial cleft(3), hypertelorism(3), mental retardation(3), congenital lower lip sinus(1) and hydrocephalus(1), in order of frequency.

2. Congenital anomalies were 11 in 57 cleft palates, 6 in 154 cleft lip and 7 in 169 cleft lip & palate.

3. The acquired diseases were found in 91 cases. Among 101 of 226 cleft palate with or without cleft lip, the middle ear diseases were found 65 cases and of these, 52 cases were involved in both ears.

4. The audiogram was performed in 15 cooperable patients with cleft palate and of these, 12 patients had hearing loss in 15 dB. or greater in both ears.

5. Myringotomy with tubal insertion was done in 17 patients with middle ear effusion and the results were clinically satisfactory.
